Browser Extension Protection Guide

The Stormhood Browser Extension protects desktop browsing across Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Brave. It acts as an active threat hunter, inspecting URLs, shortened redirect chains, and deceptive page components before they can compromise your machine.

1. Core Extension Capabilities

A. Forensic Link Analysis

Hidden links, shortened URLs (bit.ly, t.co), and homograph domain spoofing (e.g. replacing o with cyrillic о) are the #1 way credentials are stolen.

  • On X (Twitter) [Free for all]: Hover or click Analyze on any tweet link to inspect its real target destination before navigation.
  • Across the Entire Web [Pro]: Right-click any link anywhere on the web and select Stormhood > Analyze Link. The extension reveals:
    • Full redirect hop chain (e.g. bit.lytrack.xyzfake-login.com).
    • Domain age and reputation score.
    • Known malware or impersonation flags.

B. Quiet Mode (Background Protection) [Pro]

Security shouldn't interrupt your daily workflow:

  • The extension runs lightweight, zero-latency heuristic checks on pages you visit.
  • If a domain is verified safe, Stormhood stays silent and does not clutter your display.
  • If a phishing pattern or blacklisted signature is detected, a high-contrast danger alert intercepts navigation and prevents data entry.

C. The Draggable Page Guard (Floating Action Shield)

Pro subscribers have access to the floating Stormhood status shield:

  • Draggable: Position the shield anywhere on your browser window.
  • Instant Inspection: Click the shield at any time to open a side panel report of the active tab without navigating away.
  • Visual Status: Green (Safe / Verified), Amber (Caution / Unverified Age), Red (High Risk Scam Detected).

D. Twitter / X Anti-Scam Shield

Scammers frequently hijack verified accounts or create lookalike handles to post fake cryptocurrency giveaways, malicious customer support numbers, and phishing links.

  • Automatically flags spoofed accounts and copycat handles in reply threads.
  • Analyzes giveaway prompts for artificial urgency and drainer contract signatures.

2. Whitelisting & Domain Customization

If your organization uses internal domains or test servers that trigger heuristic warnings:

  1. Open the Stormhood extension popup.
  2. Click the Settings Gear icon.
  3. Under Whitelisted Domains, enter the domain (e.g. internal.mycompany.local) and click Add.
  4. The domain will be bypassed during automated heuristic scans.

3. Reporting Uncataloged Scams

If you encounter a new fraudulent website that bypasses automated checks:

  1. Click the Stormhood popup icon.
  2. Select Report Scam.
  3. Our security team and automated crawler will verify the domain within minutes and propagate the block signature globally to all Stormhood users.
